Hi guys! I hope you are all doing well. I am so excited for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. Lately I have been dying to travel, so a nice little getaway weekend to my boyfriends river cabin should be very lovely. There is a little river about an hour and a half from my house, and my boyfriends family owns a cabin there. It is always so much fun to go over there and boat and just spend quality time with family and friends. I have also been reading like a mad woman, during these last few weeks of being home. I am on a mission to grow myself and continue to become a better person. That is why I have actually been asking myself three questions every morning. If you guys didn’t know I am a total personal development nerd. I love all things in the self-help world. I am constantly on a mission to live my best life possible. That is why I have been reading a lot recently. I truly believe books are one of the best ways to grow your mind. Recently, I have been reading the book, “High Performer Habits.” This book basically talks about all the high performers in this world and tells how you can become one. This book has given me many tangible things, but one of those things are three questions that I taped in my shower and I ask myself them every morning. The questions are: “What can I be excited about today?” “Who can I surprise with a thank-you gift or moment of appreciation?” “What negative situations might pop up that I can respond to in a positive way?”
What can I Be Excited about Today?
We all know how easy it is to get in a routine and just go through the motions of life without actually living. This question allows me to appreciate the small things and actually feel excited about my each and every day. For example, I make myself excited about eating breakfast, doing my work, and playing board games with my family. That way when it comes time to do those things I am fully present. This practice can also be a gut check. If there is genuinely nothing in your day that you are excited about, then that is a sign you should probably make some changes.
Who can I Surprise with a Thank-You Gift or Moment of Appreciation?
One of the things that I strive to be in life is self-less. This is a whole lot easier said than done, and something that I have been continuing to work on. This question has really allowed me to become intentional about at least being self-less towards one person each day. Giving is also one of my favorite things to do. Giving and helping others is genuinely something that sets my soul on fire. I love it. Even if giving/helping doesn’t light you up, this is still a practice you should be doing. It can allow you to become more appreciative and acknowledge the sweet things in life.
What Negative Situations Might Pop up that I can Respond to in a Positive Way?
Before reading this book, I tried my best to never think about negative scenarios. I only wanted to focus on the positive. While that is what you should do, it is also important to not push away your negative emotions. For example, lately I have been really bored. When I get bored many times that leads me to watching tv or doing something unproductive, and I hate the feeling of being unproductive. That is why when I think about this question I am honest with myself and try to walk through how I can respond to my boredom in a positive way. This is also something you could do if there is a particular coworker that you don’t work the best with at work. Think about the situation beforehand, and how you can respond in a positive way. It is going to leave you feeling so much better, than if you were to give into the negativity.
I highly recommend that you guys start implementing these practices. All the books I read usually always have some sort of tangible tips in them. All those tips can be hard to remember at times. That is why I wrote these three questions out and hung them up in my shower. I shower at the beginning of everyday, so this was a great place to put these questions. You could also ask these questions while you are eating breakfast in the morning, or getting dressed. It doesn’t really matter when or how you do it, just that you do it.
