5 Lies I Was Told as a New Blogger

I have been blogging about five months now! I absolutely love it and it is one of my favorite things to do. When I was first starting out like most new bloggers I searched Pinterest and Google for tips! Most of these tips tell you how to drive traffic to your blog, start making money, and basically everything under the sun.

Some of the tips I learned were super helpful and I still use them to this day. Others I had to find out that they didn’t quite work for me. I think the biggest thing is just finding out what works for you and what does not. Slowly I am beginning to learn this, and I continue to try new things to see what works and what doesn’t!

This is my laptop. I absolutely love it!

Tip #1 I Heard

“Don’t post everyday, readers don’t like it”

This may be true for some people, but for others it is the main reason they are so popular. Personally, for me posting 3x a week works the best. But for others they may find that posting once a week works best for them. You just have to figure out what works for you and your audience! 🙂

Tip #2

“Take your own photos”

Okay not gonna lie I pretty much agree with this one, I think that it is wonderful to have your own original content. But on the other hand this is why sites like Shutterfly are created. I know several popular websites that do not use their own photos. I even used a photo that I didn’t take in this post! Just make sure to give credit where credit is due when you use others photos, and no stealing pictures lol.

Tip #3

“Make sure all your Pinterest boards are straightforward”

This is another one of those things that may work for some people. I started out labeling all my boards like “hair” and other straightforward things like that. But I thought it was kind of boring and I think so did my audience. So I started creating boards like “Made me laugh” and “So cute.” These board names make me a lot happier and I think my followers enjoy them too. Just find out what works for you!

Tip #4

“Start a Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram account for your blog”

I 100% agree that you should start some sort of social media account for your blog in order to get your name out there. But personally I have found that if you create to many accounts you will have trouble being dedicated to all of them.

For me I have found that it is best to focus primarily on Pinterest and Instagram. However, I have heard that Facebook is an excellent source as well if you are more a facebook person rather then Instagram. 🙂 Also linkedin is a great way to connect to people!

Tip #5

“Only use affiliate links sparingly, do not include them in every blog post. Your followers will lose trust in you”

Like the other ones this may be true for some people, but for me this isn’t true! Personally, I do not mind at all when people put affiliate links in their posts. I honestly like it better, because the majority of the time people link cute and helpful things!

This blog post was to basically just tell you to find out what works for you! Write content that you enjoy and your audience enjoy, take pictures you love, and basically set up your blog however you want to. Because at the end of the day you are the one that is creating it and having to look at it everyday. So just do what make you happy!

Hope you guys are having a great day.
