My Dermatologist Experience

I have been blessed enough to never really struggle with acne. However, I have really sensitive skin that gets clogged pores easily. So, at times it is hard to find products that do not clog my pores. I decided to go to the dermatologist last October. I had been having constant problems with breakouts, so I wanted to see if I could get to the bottom of it.

There was a new dermatologist in my town that I had been hearing great things about, so I made an appointment. At the beginning of my appointment she asked me to take off my makeup, and she started to take a look at my skin. She said that my acne was caused by clogged pores and wasn’t actual “acne”. More so just pesky pimples (which I pretty much knew this was the case when I went).

I started to get a little skeptical when she started recommending products to dry out my skin. She said that she does not really believe in moisturizer. This was crazy to me, because I have always struggled with eczema and dry skin and I even told her this! But, she still said not to worry about moisturizer. She believed that in order to get clear skin you just have to dry out your face.

Skincare

She recommended that I use a face wash, a mud mask, blemish and age defense serum, and then she gave me a line of makeup that she sells.

This is the face wash that she recommended.

Overall, I do really like this face wash. It works really well, and is great for getting off leftover makeup. The only downside is that it is pretty pricey. Like almost $50 bucks pricey. She said it is supposed to last me 6 months, and it actually has surprisingly! Just be extra careful when you open the lid, because it likes to run out super fast lol. I usually spread a little bit on a wash cloth and scrub my face with it. It dries it out a little, but not so much that it makes me greasy or gives me more pimples.

This is the serum she recommended me.

She recommended I purchase this serum, and put it on every night before I go to bed. This serum does truly do its job, but the only thing is that it clears up my pimples, but then brings out even more! I think that my skin tries to overcompensate for being so dry. So, it makes it oily, which in turn brings out more pimples. It is a terrible cycle, and I am glad I figured out what was going on. I do however love to put this on my bikini line after I shave and on my back when I break out. It is perfect for preventing razor bumps! Also, when I get break outs on my back it gets rid of them overnight. I will more than likely purchase this product again, but I will never put it on my face again lol.

The best face mask ever!!!!

I have been using this face mask for several years now. So, I was excited when this was one of the things she recommended! This face mask works by extracting things out of your pores. Whenever the face mask dries you can actually see the things it has brought out of your pores. It is awesome! I have found that this face mask isn’t too drying, which is great. You can use it however often as you like. During the winter I like to use it 3x a week, while in the summer I use it everyday. It is also a great way to get any leftover makeup off your face! Highly recommend.

Makeup

On top of all those skincare products, she also recommended the Jane Iredale makeup line to me. I feel that her opinions were completely based on the fact that she makes money from them. I do understand that everyone needs to be able to pay bills, I just did not feel that these products fitted my skincare needs.

You can find this facial mist here

This facial mist is pretty much just to do the same job setting spray does. I am not sure if it held my makeup in place, but it does feel nice on my face lol. Not gonna lie I ran out of this a while ago, and just refilled it with water. I don’t recommend it, not gonna lie. I don’t think it is worth the money at all.

You can find this foundation here

This foundation is all natural and completely made out of minerals and other natural products. It has a very yellowy tint to it. It did blend in with my skin nicely, but it didn’t have good coverage, and it clogged my pores. Once again, even though I told her I have sensitive skin she recommended foundation whose third ingredient is COCONUT ALKANES. Cocunut alkanes is derived from coconut oil, and coconut oil clogs pores. Like majorly clogs pores lol. I was so bummed out when I spent so much money on something that a skincare professional recommended me, only to find out it didn’t work. Once again, I don’t think I would recommend this to anyone. You could get a way better product for 1/2 the cost.

You can find this powder here

This powder works fine. It is pretty much like any other pressed powder that you use. There is nothing amazing about it. I personally think the Rimmel Stay Matte powder works just the same, and is way cheaper.

Overall, I did not have a very good experience. I was hoping that she would give me products that would help my skin tremendously. Instead, I got products that she made money from, and not products that were actually suited to my skin. I am not saying that all dermatologists are like this. This was just my experience. 🙂

I hope you guys are having a great week,

Kate
