Hey guys! I hope you are all having an amazing day. Today I got home after a long and relaxing weekend at the river. I have been enjoying my weekends more than ever lately. After having to go back to work full time and resuming my school work, I am definitely missing my time at home. Since it is still the weekend when I am typing this, I decided to put up this post before the craziness of the week hits. Everyday, I typically look at my statistics for this blog. It never fails that my most popular post each and every day is my, “How to Get Rid of Razor Burn” post. Since it is by far my most popular post, I decided to elaborate further on the topic of hair removal. I have definitely had my fair share of hair horror stories, so lets dive in shall we.
Before I begin, I thought I would mention that not all skin is the same. What works for one person, might not work for another. And if you decide hair removal isn’t for you then more power to ya!
Shaving with a Razor
As you are reading this, you are probably thinking that I am crazy. Razors have seemed to be the devil ever since I was younger. Especially now that waxing and things of that sort have become extremely popular. But I am here to tell you that shaving is the WAY to go.
I have extremely dark and thick hair. Which in turn makes all the hair on my body black and thick. Like even when I shave my armpits, it still looks like I have hair. O the lovely things us women have to go through.
How to Properly use a Razor
Now that I have introduced the fellow razor, I am now going to be explaining how you should use a razor properly.
Get a sharp razor. I know that sounds intimidating, but it is what is going to give you the closest shave. One of my favorite brands is Gillette, but whatever razor works for you is fine.
I know this is going to sound crazy, but if you have skin that gets razor burn easily, use disposable razors. Yes, you heard me correctly. DiSpOsAbLe RaZoRs. Like after every time you shave throw that one away, and get a new one. I know this seems wasteful, but you can recycle them! As long as you get rid of the blade I am pretty sure. They are also super cheap, so you don’t have to worry about them breaking the bank.
The benefit of using disposable razors is that you are using a new blade every time, so you are practically guaranteed to get a close shave. Another benefit is that since you are throwing it away every time, you aren’t spreading bacteria. Which happens to be the main culprit of razor burn.
Use Shaving Cream
This one seems so simple, but actually gets looked over a lot. For the longest time, I used to just use conditioner or shampoo as shaving cream and I would wonder why my legs were all cut up. Shaving cream doesn’t have to be expensive either. Just get some cheap barbasol and go to work.
After Shave is your Best Friend
After shave is another one that gets looked over a lot. I always thought after shave was just for men, but one day I tried it and I haven’t gone back since. After shave helps to close up your pores after you get done shaving, which in return prevents razor burn. It also makes your legs smell all nice and clean! 🙂
Forms of Hair Removal to Stay away From
This is just my own personal experience, but I recommend staying away from all the hair removal creams. I have such bad experiences from many different types of them. While they may give you results, just be weary of the after affects. One time I put some hair removal stuff on my upper lip, and it gave me impetigo.
Another one I dislike is waxing. However, I do think it is the next best after shaving. The only problem with waxing is that you have to wait a while for your hair to grow out to actually be able to wax it. And if you’re anything like me, your hair still grows back within a day or so. I also like to have clean shaven skin everyday, so waiting a while for it to grow out just isn’t really an option for me. In addition, to hair removal creams I have also had negative skin side effects after waxing.
Thank you guys so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed this post.
